INTRODUCTION

Sustainability is defined as meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. In the face of a population projected to grow from 6.6 billion to 10 billion by 2050, this is no easy task.

Morrissey & Company is committed to promoting environmental sustainability through sustainable business practices and environmental education programs. Much like the "triple R" poster slogan, "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle," our environmental commitment focuses on:

  1. Reducing consumption
  2. Promoting sustainable consumption
  3. Effectively managing resources consumed
  4. Education and awareness
  5. A greener culture

REDUCING CONSUMPTION

Like most organizations, Morrissey & Company consumes two major types of resources: energy and material goods. Below is a list of the steps we have taken to reduce consumption of each:

  • Use energy-efficient appliances and fixtures
  • Require employees to turn off all appliances when not in use
  • Set printers and copiers to produce double-sided documents on recycled paper
  • Encourage employees to transmit documents electronically and print only when necessary to reduce paper consumption
  • Provide re-usable coffee mugs for employees
  • Provide washable porcelain dishware for the break room and kitchen area
  • Cancel all unwanted magazine, newspaper, and catalogue subscriptions at the office and at employees’ homes

PROMOTING SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION: PURCHASING

Purchasing choices can have large, indirect consequences for the natural environment. Choosing to support suppliers that offer sustainable products and services can have tremendous effects on the supply chain. Morrissey & Company, along with more and more companies, is looking to meet growing demand for environmentally sound products and services. We strive to purchase 100 percent of the following products from sustainable sources:

  • Recycled paper products
  • Recycled plastic products
  • Biodegradable break room supplies
  • Non-toxic cleaning supplies

MANAGING RESOURCES CONSUMED: RECYCLING

Morrissey & Company recycles paper, plastic, aluminum, and electronic waste (such as old computers and other electronic devices).

EDUCATION AND AWARENESS

Assuming an active role in promoting environmental education and awareness is of key importance in promoting environmental sustainability. Morrissey & Company employees regularly participate in local and national sustainability conferences, forums and fundraisers.

A GREENER CULTURE

Morrissey & Company employees take sustainability personally and live active, environmentally responsible professional and personal lives. Many employees walk, bicycle, take public transportation, or take hybrid vehicles to work and business meetings. Morrissey & Company encourages this by offering athletic shoe reimbursement, a company Zip Car account, and company bicycles for employees’ business and leisure use.

The above list of ways we promote environmental sustainability is always growing, and we welcome your questions, comments and suggestions. Please e-mail info@morrisseyco.com.
